The Ronen® Cold Thread Rolling Machine is a game-changer for suppliers, as it can form threads on metal parts without the need for heating—cutting energy costs significantly. It uses two rolling dies to press the threads into rods or bolts. It is suitable for steel and brass. Due to the high strength of the metals, the threads are more durable.
The Cold Thread Rolling Machine directly presses the rod material with two threaded rollers, thereby forming threads on the surface of the rod. Fix the round rod material onto the machine. As the roller rotates, it presses against the rod material, and the rod material thus forms a thread.
The Cold Thread Rolling Machine can form external threads without cutting the metal. It uses two to three hardened molds with reverse thread patterns. The machine presses these molds onto a smooth cylindrical workpiece under high pressure. The molds force the metal on the blank to flow and undergo plastic deformation, transforming it into a threaded shape through the cold forming process.
The Machine mainly adopts two types of mold configurations. The flat mold consists of two rectangular plates that move linearly and are offset from each other, with the blank rolling between them. The cylindrical mold consists of two or three rotating circular molds through which the blank passes. The setup of the machine includes installing molds suitable for the thread specifications, and adjusting the pressure and feed speed according to the blank material and diameter.
The working principle of the Cold Thread Rolling Machine is to replace the metal on the surface of the blank.
Simply put, as long as the pressure generated by the mold exceeds the material's tolerance (i.e., exceeds the material's yield strength), the material is "pressed" into the mold cavity. This heat-free process compacts and "tightens" the internal structure (grain structure) of the thread flank, creating a tighter thread. Consequently, threads created using this method are stronger than those produced using traditional "cutting" methods (e.g., cutting with a knife) and are more resistant to wear and tear from repeated use (resistance to fatigue).

The feature of the Cold Thread Rolling Machine is that the rollers are durable. The rollers are made of high-strength alloy with a high surface hardness. The squeezing force of the machine can be adjusted, and different degrees of force can be set for materials of different hardness levels. This ensures that the rod material will not be bent or cracked during the rolling process.
